The last few days have been quite stressful globally due to the unprecedented and rapidly changing COVID-19 circumstances. We know you might have some questions about the pandemic and how it may impact your orthodontic care. We have tried to answer some FAQs to help you get a clear understanding of how to proceed with your treatment. At Brite Orthodontics, we will support you at every stage and find innovative ways to provide you with excellent orthodontic care.
When will the office reopen?
The scheduled date is April 1, 2020. However, we are assessing the situation continuously and will intimate you if there is any change in the reopening date.
Though our office is closed, the team is available to assist patients via phone and email from 9 am – 5 pm. If you need to get in touch with us, please email or call us.
Why do you have to close your orthodontic office?
Due to the nature of COVID-19 pandemic and as recommended by numerous health and government officials, all elective procedures must be stopped for safety reasons.
Elective procedures are medical treatment procedures that do not involve a medical emergency to save someone’s life.
I wear Invisalign aligners. What should I do when your office is closed?
Maintain good oral hygiene and wear your aligners as instructed.
If you do not have the next set of aligners to continue to your next week, you can wear your last aligners; however, wear them for 10-12 hours per day. This ensures that the teeth stay in their new positions and the aligners last longer.
Do not eat forbidden foods to avoid the breakage of aligners. Remember to wash your hands with soap and water before and after placing or removing your aligners.
I lost or broke my retainer or aligner. What should I do?
Don’t get stressed about it. Get in touch with us through an email or phone and we will let you know how to proceed.
I am wearing braces or an appliance. How should I proceed?
Brush and floss three times a day and keep good oral hygiene. Do NOT eat hard and crunchy foods to avoid breakage. If you are wearing any elastic, continue to do so as instructed.
The braces will continue to straighten your teeth and the elastic wear will correct your bite. We will be able to advance your treatment once we reopen our office.
I am scheduled for braces removal. What happens now?
Though dental care is quite safe for patients and all the dental care providers follow hospital-level sterilization protocols, the process of braces removal may possibly involve aerosols. These aerosols can contain biological materials which can affect your health.
During a sensitive time like this, it is a good idea to defer the braces removal process. Continue to maintain good dental hygiene by brushing and flossing regularly. We would suggest you proceed with the braces removal once the situation normalizes.
I have a poking wire or other problem that is bothering me. What do I do?
Call us immediately. We will try to provide you with a fix that you can easily do at home.
If it is a true emergency and you are experiencing severe pain, we will arrange a fix in a private setting at our office. You would be the only patient in the office.
I lost or broke my aligner or retainer. How should I proceed?
Get in touch with us through a call or mail. Someone from our team will get in touch with you and let you know how to proceed.
What should I do if I am scheduled to start treatment soon?
Starting your orthodontic treatment to get a new smile can be very exciting. But we will have to put it on hold until the situation normalizes. Once the COVID-19 situation gets under control, we will be ready to start your treatment.
We are advised to wash our hands frequently; how should we handle wearing orthodontic appliances such as retainers, aligners, etc.?
You must continue wearing your aligners or other orthodontic appliances to maintain your treatment progress. If you are wearing your retainers, continue wearing them as instructed to get the desired treatment results.
Use soap and water to wash your hands thoroughly before and after removing and placing your aligners, retainers or elastics. Clean the orthodontic appliances with diluted soap and water solution. Use an old toothbrush to clean them and rinse them with cold water.
What if I have a routine appointment coming up?
Appointments like retainer check, new patient consultation, growth monitoring, etc., are all important appointments. But, since they are elective in nature, it would be advisable to push them to a later date considering the current situation. We have all your dental records and we will surely reschedule them once we reopen.
Are any patients allowed in the office? How will you address their concerns?
As of now, no patients are allowed in the office. However, our team is there to assist you via phone and mail to address your concerns. We will be updating our website regularly to keep you notified of any change.
